The Boars Head Pub Reviews

What a place, it was everything we expected and more. Booked for my husbands 50th and i couldn't have asked for a better place to host the weekend. It was so clean we were arrived and Darren had kindly accepted the Tesco shop and put it away for us. The bar area was amazing and we were able to cater for ourselves all weekend using the kitchen which included a roast dinner. The outside are was a sun trap which we loved. Honestly one of the best places i have stayed and we are looking to book again next year. Thankyou
We have had another fabulous weekend at the pub to celebrate my husbands 50th. The new bedroom is lovely so you can now sleep 25. Darren was lovely and left us some desserts in the dessert fridge. We cooked for 27 on Saturday and Sunday night. The bbq was a good size. The dishwasher in the kitchen did start to struggle in the end so we washed by hand. Darren responded very quickly to any queries we had. The hot tub was a bit cloudy but we still used it, I believe it was the chemicals. This is our 2nd time there and it certainly wont be our last.
The accommodation was fantastic. We visited for a stag do, and everyone thought hiring our own pub was an excellent idea. The facilities were really good, including the sauna and hot tub, and Darren was an exceptional host quick to respond to emails and even went the extra mile to source us a keg that wasnt on the original list. The only slight downside was that we couldnt find the fourth bedroom, which seemed to be locked. Everyone we met locally was very friendly and welcoming in every pub we visited, and they were forthcoming with recommendations.
Darren
Went on a couples over 50 s weekend, all you'd want for a self catering break, excellent venue including games room, t. V room to watch world cup and excellent beer garden with hot tub.Plenty if quiet nooks if you need it. Quirky olde world charm wonky floors upstairs lol or were we drunk
Alison
It was a great place for 16 of us from all over England to meet up in beautiful Shropshire countryside that most of them had never been to before. The accommodation in the Curly Tail is better than most hotels I have used, the bedrooms in the main building a bit more boutique. The bar and restaurant area was ideal to meet, talk, drink and sing at the end of the day and more than big enough to accommodate us all. The snug provide a quiet area to retreat to if needed. More than one of us was found dozing in there. Due to the extreme heat during our stay, the garden area was not really used except for the odd al fresco breakfast but was a comfortable area to sit and chat. The lay out of the kitchen is a bit odd. Making a cup of tea or coffee in the morning could get interesting. Kettles at the opposite end to the sinks and then walking back again to the fridge while 10 others were preparing their breakfasts. Several people commented on this.
Claire
We were a group of 15 on a hen do and had an amazing stay at The Boars Head. The space is generous and works well for larger groups, with plenty of room to spend time together comfortably. The kitchen facilities are excellent and wellequipped, which made catering for everyone straightforward. The rooms are clean and all lovely, and there are some great shared spaces, including a games room and BBQ area. The hot tub and sauna were a fabulous addition and gave us a chance to relax. The host was very responsive and quick to reply to any questions, which we really appreciated Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to celebrate with a larger group of friends or family looking to spend time together.

I booked The Boar's Head for my 40th and wanted to create a fun British Soap style pub for the weekend. It did not disappoint! It really is a classic British pub, absolutely perfect for the occasion. I had 20 friends and we had a blast, I will never get over this weekend. From the bar, to the dancefloor, to the hot tub to cooking breakfast in the industrial kitchen, it was epic! This was not like booking a 2 bed Air BnB. This is a huge old pub, sleeping 23 people. We did find a few things confusing and there wasn't clear instructions for everything. For the coffee machine I was told to search on YouTube. When I said I couldn't work it, I was told again to look on YouTube, which wasn't helpful. The pub is old and therefore gets cold at night. The manual said the heating is on constantly, but the radiators were definitely not on at night, it was cold. They did however come on in the morning. We had lots of questions leading up to the event as we had so many things to organise. Darren was helpful and booked a bar man for us and lightsmusic equipment from a local supplier. The Sykes app is not great and documents that were sent prior to our arrival did not open properly so we had to contact Sykes a few times and also Darren. It would be great if Sykes could update their app so that we can get all the info we need and not have to contact Darren as much. Thanks!
Danielle
What a place! It's perfect for a group of friends. 22 of us went for the weekend and it did not disappoint. Plenty of rooms and different sections so you can do what you want without being on top of one another. Great outdoor area with a hot tub and bbq. The games room has plenty to offer, also including boardgames for familieskids while also having drinking games for adult groups. Located in a lovely little village, we went to two pubs on the Friday while waiting to go into ours, we also went for Sunday lunch which was great. Plenty to do all round for any group. We all thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely come back. We left yesterday and by this evening the bond has been returned in full. Thank you so much for having us Darren. You have a wonderful home. Danielle.
I booked this pub for a friend's stag do for the weekend. It is fair to say that it delivered on every level! Darren is the most responsive and helpful host, always on hand to help with any queries and requests and he made the whole booking experience incredibly easy. The actual pub is just as advertised perfect for any occasion and has something for everyone. I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone who is considering it. In fact, every member of our group of 23 would!
Had a fantastic stag do weekend at the Boar's Head what a great experience to stay in a pub! All amenities, including hot tub, sauna and games room were perfect for our stay. The pub even has the added bonus of Sky TV which meant we could watch all the weekend's sports. The bedrooms, especially in the Curly Tail, were of a high standard and all the bathrooms and other facilities were in excellent condition. Darren was fast and reliable with his communication and explained everything effectively in the buildup to our stay. Thank you again for hosting us! All in all, I'd highly recommend The Boar's Head!
Stephen
Absolutely fantastic place for a stag weekend. The house was spotlessly clean, spacious, and perfectly set up for a large group. Plenty of room for everyone, great communal areas, and the facilities were exactly as advertised. The host was brilliant from start to finishclear instructions, quick replies, and very understanding about it being a stag group, which made the whole weekend stressfree. The location was ideal, with easy access to local bars and shops. Couldnt have asked for a better base for the weekend. Would 100 recommend this property to any stag or group booking and would happily return. Thanks very much Darren and all the very best. Stephen Moore.
We had a absolutely wonderful time at the Boars Head Pub for my wife 40th birthday, its an amazing venue with everything you need, from pouring your own pints to relaxing in the hot tub or playing darts and pool. All bedrooms were lovely from inside the pub or in curly tail apartments and Darren the owner was excellent in responding to my messages. The area in general has everything you need, with other restaurants and shops to look in during the day. Thank you again for letting us share your beautiful venue and making so many memories.
We had a great stay here for the stag do we had booked. A great pubfacility that had loads to do and in a great little town as well
We had a fantastic stay at the boar's head with 20 of us there for a stag do. The accomodation was absolutely amazing and having a working bar was a really unique feature. All the rooms were made to a high standard. Loads of great features including the games room, hot tubtiki bar area outside and a large kitchen which is well equipped. Darren was an absolute gent and was excellent at communicating throughout the booking and stay. 1010 experience.
Wow just wow. This property and its facilities are truly exceptional. We booked The Boars Head to celebrate my husbands birthday, with friends travelling from various parts of England, and it exceeded all expectations. Bishops Castle itself is a wonderful location, and the venue is simply fantastic a real hidden gem. The reviews we read beforehand were absolutely spot on. Darren, the owner, and Sykes were incredibly helpful and attentive from start to finish. No question was too small, and every query was answered promptly and professionally, which made the whole experience seamless. The facilities are second to none everything you could possibly need is provided. A fun highlight was friends who had never been behind a bar before! learning how to pour a pint. We also visited The Three Tuns, as recommended, for Sunday lunch, and it was excellent. This was a truly memorable experience, and we will be talking about The Boars Head for years to come. In fact, were already planning a return visit next year.
Natasha
Everything about this property was stunning from start to finish, it is a five star accomodation that is worth every single penny, I am already looking for an excuse to book again! The village itself was so welcoming and lovely, the whole experience was perfect, we loved every moment!
We had an amazing stay at this wonderful location.
The property in the pub is very comfy, the bar and snug areas are just perfect for gathering or just to retire off. The Curly tail accommodation also was superb for that extra bit of escaping the pub and very spacious. The layout of the whole place was perfect, nobody felt under each others way. Just a tip, pub bedrooms are slightly on a hill no its not how drunk you are. It was that good there, one of our family members got proposed too in the bar area. Xxx
Stacey
We hired this beautiful pub to celebrate three 50th birthdays, and it was absolutely perfect. The place has a lovely rustic feel and was spotlessly clean, with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The hot tub was a massive hit with everyone, and the ladies especially loved the sauna, which you can access from inside the property. The fire added such a cosy, homely touch to the evenings. We also had a barrel of beer, a barrel of Guinness, and Pepsi on tap all of which were excellent and really added to the whole experience. We would love to come back and stay longer next time, as the surrounding area looks beautiful and well worth exploring. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a special group getaway.
A surprise weekend, for my wifes 60th. Could not have chosen a better venue... Absolutley perfect, in fact the photos don't do it justice. All 21 people in our party had a blast and our whatsapp group has bearly stopped this week with comments and photo's. The recommended caterers were superb, thank you Helen and Joe from Oak Apple Catering for a teriffic spread on the Saturday evening, also a massive thank you to Darren and his team for letting us use such a fantastic venue. WE WILL BE BACK!!...
Absolutely love this place and Darren has been great with us. This was our second stay at The Boars Head and we love it so much we have all planned to keep going every other year for as long as this property is available! The accommodation is perfect for the size of our group and so much for everyone to do, children and adults all had the best time!
I booked the Boars Head a year in advance for my 70th birthday, with 19 members of my family staying. Inevitably, you wonder how it will work out, but my fears were unjustified. The communication from the owner was excellent, staying in a Sixteenth Century pub was a delight and we had a lovely time. Many special memories were made.
Louise
We had a wonderful stay at the Boars Head pub. The facilities and accommodation was amazing. Such a unique experience to share with friends and family. The games room was a hit with us all. Our resident chef was very impressed with the kitchen and equipment and the Guinness on draught was superb. Messages and conversation with the owner were excellent We will definitely recommend and cant wait to return for a second visit
WOW Just spent a week at the Boars head celebrating my 50th Birthday. The 18 of us had the most amazing time. We honestly couldnt fault a thing. The owner Darren was quick to reply to any of our queries and couldnt be more helpful. Some of us got to meet him and he was so kind spending some time telling us about the history of his wonderful pub. The place is perfect for relaxing time, but with your own bar to party the night away. If you ever get the chance to book this place, just do it. You will have a blast! Glen
Best place iv ever stayed at. Having your own pub is brilliant, me and my friends had such an amazing time and would use again for sure, too notch
Joshua
This place is an absolute gem. We had a brilliant weekend here and made some awesome memories we will remember forever. Accommodation was comfy and well presented. The bar and pub area is one of the cosiest places I've been in a long long time. With a great room to watch sport on a massive TV. We had activities planned in the afternoons but the real star and excitement was from being at the venue itself. Having been a barman 10 years ago it was great to get behind the bar and have fun with it. The location has plenty of food establishments with a wide range of cuisine and there's a huge spar shop across the road which was super convenient. This place is incredibly unique and the owner Darren was very helpful. Would 100 recommend and come back.
Claire
This place is amazing! ! We were a group of 18 people, with dogs in tow, who stayed here to celebrate my husbands 50th. We were a mix of ages and all had so much fun. The bedrooms are lovely, kitchen facilities are fantastic, and the pub itself is just so full of charm. We loved the hot tub in the garden and our teenage kids loved the games room. We had a dabble with the karaoke. It was really fun having our own lockin every night. All in all such a unique experience, I would highly recommend it.
We had a blast at the Boars Head, stayed for the week and didnt want to leave. Would highly recommend for others considering booking for group staysfamily gatherings. The property was presented beautifully, the bar area was great for getting together in the evenings, games room went down well with the kids & adults, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was ample to cook up dinner for everyone. The local butcher is well worth ordering from, we even ordered to take some home with us. Communication with Darren was great throughout and he was always quick to respond to any questions I had. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
What a great place to stay ! Right from arrival it gave the wow factor ! The bedrooms were all great , nicely presented , very clean and comfortable beds. Lovely to have the more cosy areas too! Great that we could have shopping delivered before we arrived and it all put away for us . Always had quick responses from Darren about any questions . Would definitely stay again !
Deborah
What a fantastic property to celebrate your special occasions! On arrival Darren the proprietor had put fresh flowers and fresh fruit for us, bed linen was of a high standard, beds very comfortable, toiletries were provided in bathrooms, facilities are great, nothing was a problem as Darren very quick to respond to our queries during our stay We will definitely be returning for future celebrations! Thank you Darren
Great spacious anccomodation and set up. Fun for all the family and plenty to keep everyone entertained. Nice location with plenty of places to eat and drink and nice walks within close proximity. Darren was great to deal with. Very proactive with communications and quick to respond to any questions we had.
Absolutely fantastic property for a large group of friends. All the facilities you could want. Rooms are well appointed and very comfy. Having the bar set up with kegs of beer and traditional bar snacks made the experience even better. The group really enjoyed the games room, big tv room to catch up on sport, hot tub and garden area with bbq. Due to the large open plan kitchen and crockery on open shelves, some items were found dirty. Could have done with a slightly later check out time to allow for cleaning before departure. It was a very early start.
Geraldine
