The Gatehouse Reviews

Laurey
The best property we have stayed at yet. The house, garden and grounds surrounding it were beautiful. The house was so clean, really comfortable beds, lots of seating in the living area and it had practically everything you could think of and more. There wasn't one thing I needed but couldnt find, just so well equipped. The garden was a lovely size and so peaceful and private. Hidden by beautiful trees with the birds singing all day long. The hot tub was a real treat. Lots of lovely things to do in the area and both the pub down the road and the chinese which were recommended were lovely. We had an issue on the day we were leaving a personal issue, nothing to do with the house or the owner and the owner was so very understanding and kind, which meant a lot. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed!
What a beautiful house. Absolutely everything you could possibly want or need. Even down to the little torches strategically placed around the house which were a godsend when we had a very unexpected power outage. The house felt like a home not just a holiday let. Would
The Gatehouse is an absolutely fantastic place, we had a great weekend there to celebrate my sons 21st Birthday. The house is beautiful and very well thought out, thanks must go to Jennie for all her information supplied & answering questions about our stay. The hot tub was amazing, the games room & karaoke machine were an added bonus, also the table tennis & badminton was a big hit to burn off some energy! The downstairs bedroom was brilliant for older guests so they didnt have to climb many steps, & the added toilet facilities on the ground floor was great too! All in all a fabulous experience, would highly recommend for a multigenerational group.
We booked the gatehouse to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Our kids , grandkids & dog joined us for the weekend . The house is huge and with 7 of us plus 2 dogs it was very roomy with plenty of space . From the hot tub , table tennis , games room and a cupboard full of games we were all entertained. The kitchen was well thought out with every utensil you could think of provided . Big enclosed garden and very private ..beautiful bedrooms .. we would highly recommend The Gatehouse and hopefully we shall return in the future . Thank you Jennie
Absolutely wonderful stay with our extended family. All the games and outdoor equipment were very welcome and we loved the hot tub and comfy beds. In a great location with walks on the doorstep, we'd love to come back one day!
Fantastic stay! The property was very big, clean and even nicer than the photos. Very high quality throughout. The gatehouse felt very big and open, and having a huge TV and lots of games was great for relaxing in the evenings. The kitchen and amenities were excellent, providing virtually everything we needed for our stay. The hot tub was a great addition and we really enjoyed the outdoor space on sunny days. The village itself is lovely with lots of nearby walks and trails, making it a perfect base. Would highly recommend!

Well equipped cottage with lots to do and lots of walks around . The owner Jennie was really helpful and quick to answer any queries.

Beautiful house and grounds, the photos do not do the property justice. Very spacious we stayed 6 adults, 2 children, a baby and a dog we had more than enough room. The house had everything you could want and more lots of games to play for indoor and out lovely extra touch. We walked to the nearby pub on the first evening they dont allow dogs inside but have a heated area outside which was lovely to sit and enjoy a drink in. The owner was very responsive was available immediately to answer my one concern. We stayed to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday he loved the house so much he didnt want to leave. We would definitely recommend and will rebook if ever in the area again.
We absolutely loved this place. Really spacious, clean and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. The host, Jennie, was really responsive and helpful and the Christmas decorations made the stay feel really festive and extra special. From the wine fridge to the games room to the hot tub, the facilities were top class and made The Gatehouse a lovely relaxing stay. Thank you!
Alison
We had a wonderful stay at the Gatehouse. The whole place is well thoughtout for a family to spend time and have fun together. The kitchen area has everything you need if you decide to cook, with plenty of crockery, pans etc. The sitting room area is spacious and and comfortable. Wifi connection is brilliant, especially as there were 5 of us all using phones, watching TV and gaming at the same time. Each bedroom was spacious with plenty of storage space, comfortable beds and the window blinds kept the rooms nice and dark. The bathrooms were warm and the jacuzzi bath was wonderful to have a relaxing soak. Outside, the hot tub was great and the ping pong table and badminton net along with other outdoor games, all added to the fun. The dogs were kept secure in the garden area, so you could relax in the hut tub without any worries. The indoor games room was also a fabulous addition, especially as we had a few rainy days. The rain definately did not stop play!! There are some lovely walks right on the doorstep, so you dont need to drive to get out into the countryside. Jenny has thought the whole house out to provide a home from home holiday let, which has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing break. Just add family members, friends, food and drink!! Thank you!!! Wonderful!!! Gold star!!!!
Alison
Great responses from Jennie to all of our queries before our stay. It was difficult to find something that we wanted that wasn't in the property. It is a stunning house which the photos do not do justice to. Easily suitable for families with the great playroom in the loft which was full of children's toys and entertainment for all ages. Beds and bed linen all very comfy and plenty of towels and hot water. Was not expecting toiletries in all the bathrooms, which were very good. Hairdryer in the Gatehouse Suite was an unexpected bonus. Also, didn't realise there was a downstairs toilet as that isn't mentioned in the blurb and the wine fridge was a real hit. Hot tub was excellent and very popular with the family. The only potential improvement, from our point of view, would be a curtain across the inside of the door of the Gatehouse suite, to soften any noise from the main room, our grandchildren were noisy. Fabulous place with lots of extras provided and would recommend it to anybody. Thank you Jennie.
2nd visit here and we always have a fabulous time, jennie is very accommodating and her instructions are perfect on getting to the property. The property has everything you need & more, it is spotless, there is ample parking with a nice hot tub at the end of a day. Lots of walks nearby, you will not be disappointed. Thank you!!!!
Catrin
A wonderful house perfect for our multiple needs. Situated in a very quiet village within walking distance of safe trails and near to properties and parkland to visit and enjoy. The hot tub was in daily use, lovely welcome pack and almost very dog friendly. The decor was clean and with comfortable sofas plus a full games room in the attic! Perfect week thank you.
Wow!!! This place is an absolute dream the pictures do not do it justice its like living in a dream we stopped here for a weekend and wish we had stayed longer it has everything and all the little added extras make it feel like a home we will definitely be returning and reccomending to other family and friends
The owners directions to The Gatehouse were very easy to follow and a great help to get there without any issues. We were three generations of one family including two teens and two dogs and we found plenty of space, comfortable beds and an even better The Hayloft games room than the website pictures show. The hot tub, badminton net and table tennis table in the garden were well used for fun, games and relaxation after lots of active days hill walking and cycling. We loved the rural location with footpaths and walkingcycling routes in all directions almost straight from the door. The kitchen was well supplied with everything needed to prepare and cook meals and there were plenty of glasses some more plates and bowls would have saved on the washing upmore use of the dishwasher! We loved the themed rooms and decor although a few less ornaments would have left more space for our belongings it was very beautifully decorated. We did miss shelvingstorage in the shower cubicle and shower room for all our toiletrieswash bags, and space for wet coats. Somewhere to store 34 bicycles would be great, like a long, roofed leanto along the narrow section of the front courtyard we understand the garage now belongs to the owners so may be available in the future. We had a couple of issues on the first two nights outside of the owners control but Jennie was very quick to respond. We thoroughly recommend The Gatehouse as a lovely, relaxing, family friendly holiday destination theres plenty to do in the area, many things within an hours drive but you could equally just enjoy the facilities and chill out at The Gatehouse.

There was a very good selection of games, toys and sports equipment provided, both outside and inside downstairs and upstairs. Also a lovely hot tub.
Lovely house in a great location. Garden and hot tub fantastic for the children..nice and secure for both children and dog to be able to play safely. Games room added bonus with plenty of things to keep the kids occupied... table tennis, volley ball, karaoke, TV and DVDs, table football, arcade game, air hockey, toys to play woth for the little ones. House had everything you would need for a holiday home from home. Lovely welcome basket too... lovely hosts...just perfect.
We absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful property it was so spacious ... Had a fabulous stay at the Gatehouse last week. 7 of us, with an age range of 5 to 70, all thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Literally everything had been thought of by the owner Even the stuff we had forgotten, such as the lighter for the candle on the 70th cake Would highly recommend for anyone to stay here. We all absolutely loved the hot tub especially. Grand children also all loved the games room on the top floor. Even the Karaoke machine got a run out. Brilliant stay from start to finish !!!

Excellent property, so well kitted out with everything you could ever require especially the kitchen Every room was decorated to the highest standard, was immaculately clean and incredibly comfortable especially the beds. The highlights for us was definitely the hot tub, the games room in loft and the great supply of games for indoors and outdoors and the location. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return again very soon.

We 7 adults and 2 dogs had a fantastic week at the Gatehouse in June. It is a lovely property with plenty of space for everyone both inside and out, and a very tranquil setting. The owners had pretty much thought of everything with many extras that aren't often provided in self catering accommodation. The hot tub was a bonus and very popular with everyone. It was spotlessly clean and was checkedcleaned mid week too. Outdoor table tennis and badminton were a hit too and the games room was a great place to escape to. Internet was reliable bar a couple of brief dropouts and it handled 7 phones and someone WFH for a few days without issue! There are plenty of off road walks within a few minutes walkdrive and some beautiful countryside in the area as well as numerous other places of interest. It is the sort of place where you can cram loads in or just spend your time relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. We had a few comments which shouldn't detract from this amazing property There were quite a few cobwebs on and around the ceilings we removed the worst offenders!, it was very warm at night even with the windows open so perhaps some lighter weightsummer duvets could be considered, a few more pegs would be useful, the mirrors in the bedrooms were not positioned near plug sockets making it difficult for those wanting to style hair etc. Overall we had an amazing stay and would very much like to visit again in the future, thank you for providing such a wonderful holiday home.

The Gatehouse was just perfect for us. Bridesmaids, Myself and my daughter stayed there the night before my daughters wedding. It definitely has the 'Wow' factor! The loungekitchen meant that we were all together when preparing food drinks. The spacious bedrooms were beautifully and individually decorated. On the morning that we were getting ready there was plenty of room for the hair and makeup team to set up a little work station and we all took it in turn to be transformed! whilst still all being together it was the most relaxing morning before a wedding that I have experienced. It was just a 2 minute walk to the church gate. Also the Village of Teversall is so pretty. Everything had been thought of, the kitchen was fully equipped, the bathrooms were lovely and clean. There was plenty of parking both outside the house and also to the back of the house. Our host was very helpful with any questions we had. In summary we had the perfect place to stay and we made some amazing memories for a very special day.

This is the best property we have ever stayed at AMAZING Thankyou
We were a family of 8 one very behaved beagle. Plenty of space inside and out ! We have just returned home after a most enjoyable time and feel lucky to have found such a lovely property. Communication with the owners was brilliant, including very specific driving instructions into the villagefinding the property. Very peaceful and quiet location and easily accessible with lovely dog walks on the doorstep. Highly recommended !
A fabulous, full of character property in the most charming of quiet villages. The Gatehouse is a beautiful home for larger groups there were 7 of us and there was plenty of space and the enclosed garden is perfect for a dog. There are many walks straight from the door, a Coop about 2miles away and a nice pub a short distance from the house. I totally recommend this house and its lovely surrounding countryside.
This house is perfect for a social weekend away or a family holiday! The open plan living was fantastic, the kitchen was very well stocked with everything you need to cook with, the beds are soooo comfortable! And such a beautiful location! Lovely walks all around! Owners were fantastic with the couple of queries we had ! I would definitely recommend and hopefully return !!
A lovely gatehouse, well equipped and clean. We really enjoyed our stay. There are numerous walks, which we did every day with our 2 dogs. The village itself is worth a walk around. The nearby outlet centre was worth a visit even though it wasnt very big. We would definitely rebook.
We loved our stay at the Gatehouse. It had everything we needed and exceeded our expectations. It is in a good location with local walks nearby and places to eat. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Rebecca
We had an amazing stay at The Gatehouse over Christmas. The cottage was beautiful and cosy and the beds were extremely comfortable. We used the hot tub on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and we had everything needed to make our Dinner and Day special. The playroom in the attic was also well loved by the kids. Jennie was very helpful and welcoming, the hamper on arrival was a lovely touch. Thank you again, we already can't wait to return!
Jennie was the perfect host, she was responsive to queries and offered further assistance if required. The Gatehouse was a wonderful home for two families to share for an annual meet up. Every room was spacious and clean, the furniture comfortable and kitchen had everything we needed. We received a lovely welcome email with top tips of what to bring to enhance our stay. The games room was a great hit with the kids, and I would love to return in fairer weather to make use of the lovely outdoor space.
What a fantastic place. We have never seen such a well thought out house in such a beautiful surrounding. It was comfortable and cosy whilst also being modern. The rooms are all decorated to a high standard and furnished beautifully. We had a family celebration and the kitchen had absolutely everything we needed to put on a large buffet. What a great selection ovenware, pans, crockery and glasses. First class. All Beds were comfy, the bathrooms offered shower gel, shampoo and conditioner and the rain shower was excellent. Those that used the hot tub enjoyed it. The welcome pack was greatly received by both us and our dogs. Thanks go to Jennie who was an excellent host. Highly recommend this holiday location.
This property was superb. It met all our expectations and the boys particularly loved the games room. It was spotlessly clean and the information provided by the owners was excellent. It was easy to get to lots of places of interest, which we certainly did. It was perfectly safe to let the dogs play in the enclosed garden and they loved it , as well as all the lovely walks around the village. The only negative was no Sky tv and we do all love our football so we did miss that but we managed for a week
Kirsten
A wonderful property and a lovely relaxing stay! Communication was great from the owner and the additional directions were very clear and we had no issues finding the property even though it's tucked away. Lots to keep you entertained at both the property and many activities within a 30 minute drive such as Sherwood Forest, Sherwood Pines and Matlock Bath was a great day out for us all. Would highly reccommend for a great family break!
This was a lovely break. Everything was as we expected and even better. I was not sure what to totally expect as we sometimes struggle to find local evening walks for our dog in some places. There were also plenty of walks locally to keep him entertained as well as places to visit within short driving distances. We would definitely go back there again. The pub that was within a short walk was OK to visit with our dog, though they're only allowed in the beer garden.
The house was perfect in a stunning area.
What a fantastic house ! This property has everything going for it super clean, lovely rooms, fully equipped had everything that you could need in the kitchen including the garlic crusher ! Loads of board games we left a couple in the cupboard to add to the collection. Honestly the property was A one !!
Christine
Brilliant weekend, the property certainly has the wow factor on entering. Everything clean and tidy and lots of accessibly cutlery and crockery. Really good information pack. Extra loo downstairs which we werent aware of which was a bonus given that there was only one en suite and house bathroom which our guests all managed with, so no complaints. Great outside space with hot tub. We will certainly be recommending this beautiful venue. To avoid the windy country lane with passing places. I would suggest you drive a bit further down the M1 to junction after Tibshelf service station. Otherwise its fine really.
Beautiful cottage. Well equipped the best ever and maintained to a very high standard. The owner is both extremely helpful and so accommodating. We were 3 generations plus a dog and all of us had a great time. Peaceful location and there are lovely walks from the cottage always a bonus. Enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast at the dogfriendly Hilcote Arms, a short drive away, and a delicious evening meal at The Carnarvon Arms, which had a good choice of GF options.
A pleasant stay in a lovely cottage. It was a perfect size for our party of 6 adults, 2 babies and 2 dogs. The owner Jennie was very nice and helpful. Few minor issues, a few garden chairs were breaking and needed replacing and no door latch on the downstairs bedroom wasn't ideal. However nothing to spoil our stay. Thanks
