Barn Owl Reviews

Overall the holiday was fantastic the lodge was lovely and peaceful, plenty of wildlife and some lovely walks majority of walks were within a 1020 minute drive of we wanted something longer. Just a few downfalls where that it advertised a screen was available for outside this was incorrect and this was no longer available. It also advertised a Restaurant and pub on site again incorrect the restaurant was closed and the pub only opened Wednesday to Sunday 59pm and only had 2 bottles of beer. literally. We would 100 come back for sure but we do feel the lodge needed a few minor updates such as window in ensuite broken and would open. The hot tub lights didnt work. We would recommend the lodge and the area though.
Andrea
On first appearance the Lodge looked lovely, however once inside it was very clear no deep clean had been done after the last guests. All mirrors, glass surfaces and windows were still heavily marked and dirty. The oven door was dirty and stained and the back splash still had grease on. I myself did a full clean before we could settle in. The bathroom door wouldnt open properly without considerable force and it just all seemed like there is very little upkeep of the property. One of the bathroom windows wouldnt open. A broken blind string. A faulty living room heater. We felt it was very disappointing for the cost of the week and some general maintenance and considerably better housekeeping needs to take place.
Barn Owl was a lovely lodge, it was very comfortable and spotless, the little extra touches were very much appreciated. The hot tub was lovely and if course the dark skies were a bonus. Would definitely recommend this lodge, and hope to return in the coming year
Richard
This lodge is gorgeous, spacious and in a great location. We had a brilliant time and the owners are so helpful especially as we left some stuff there and had to retrieve it. Location its about 30 mins drive to Scottish Border, we crossed over and visited Jedburgh. Its on outside of Otterburn village and theres a love pubcoffee shop in Elsdon about 10 mins drive away. Its also a great location to hop onto the top road to Kielder.
Beautiful well maintained and comfortable property. My husband's hobby is photography so this was an excellent place to capture the squirrels in their natural habitat. We loved the little squirrel feeder on the window, the squirrels were adorable each with their own characters when the came to feed. Dark night sky to absolutely amazing so many stars just wished we could have stayed longer. Loved the hot tub and the decking area below, but didn't need the outdoor tvscreen facility. Beautiful lodge we will most certainly be returning. Amazing so peaceful and relaxing ....thank you x
Lauren
Lovely lodge in lovely area. The site its self is quite run down, however the lodge and hot tub was beautiful. The lodge is equipped with everything you could need, and we were greeted with a welcome hamper which was a lovely touch. The checkin in process was seamless, property was clean and presented beautifully. Check out is 10am, which was reasonable along with check out procedure. Spent 2 days at Kielder forest which was lovely plus ate at Bellingham. Local shop however is expensive ensure you take or get a grocery delivery. The outdoor cinema was a lovely touch however we were unable to get the signal to work which was a shame but did not ruin our stay. Beautiful stay, excellent lodge and brilliant amenities thank you.
The most lovely place to stay ! Had the best week
Beautiful lodge and excellent decor. . we're already planning a return trip next year
Isabella
Had a lovely time at Barn Owl lodge, the lodge was comfortable, spotless and the outside area was an extra bonus with the hot tub, outside cinema and games area. Also plenty of seating areas outside. The information folder had everything you needed to know about the lodge from the cooker, to washing machine to heating. The welcome basket was a nice touch, thank you. Hoping to return next year
Catherine
Had a great stay. Used it as a base for cycling round Kielder Reservoir. Saw lots of wildlife deer and a pair of kingfishers by the lake. Would recommend.
Tracey
The property was in a great location and the welcome hamper was a lovely touch from the owners, as well as the very comprehensive email detailing all we needed to know about the accommodation. However I was very disappointed with the cleanliness of the accommodation. On arrival the windows were filthy and covered in marks, so much so, I cleaned them myself. I also had to sweep the outside area, which was covered in debris. The walls of the accommodation were also very dirty, and needed a wipe, or touch up. The bin in the main bathroom was very dirty and didnt appear to have been wiped for some time, as were the towel rails in both bathrooms. There were substantial cobwebs in the ensuite and the shower cubicle was dirty and had mould on some of the tiles. The kitchen however, was very clean. I noted that the feedback on the reviews for this property and in the guest book were all very positive and therefore I can only conclude that this was a lapse in standards on this occasion? As a result I dont think it would be fair to make my comments public, so please do not publish this feedback, but I would like them passed onto the owners so that they can act on my feedback as they see fit. I did try to email the owner during my stay, but for some reason I was unable to send it via my phone.
Colette
Absolutely loved everything about the lodge gorgeous. The setting and area stunning, it has to be seen. A couple of issues out the control of the owner, but dealt with immediately without causing any problems to us. The hottub checked daily and very warm
Nicola
The Owner was brilliant and offered lots of information for our arrival. The property is situated on a small and quiet site and the decked area where the hot tub was basked in glorious weather all weekend. This made it perfect for the relaxing break we required. Also, the large screen on an evening was perfect for the kids who stay up late watching Netflix at home. Having this facility meant we were all still together making memories. Before we left the kids were asking when we could go back and if we could stay longer next time. I think that says it all and we were all in agreement that we will return and visit local attractions such as Kielder observatory with the grandchild. Shout out to the hot tub man also who was lovely!
Charlotte
Absolutely beautiful lodge, all the facilities you could need. Plenty of space for our family of 6 to spread out and enjoy our break. Unfortunately the fuse blew when we tried to use the grill in the oven, and the TV had a very weak signal, but we used the Firestick instead for the kids in the evening. The owner was very kind to send the kids jackets that we had left hanging on the back of the door. Overall, definitely recommend this place, the location is lovely and the hot tub was a treat!
Christopher
Barn Owl Lodge is a lovely place to stay. My family had a great time exploring the area. The accommodation was lovely, very comfortable & everything met our expectations. The hot tub & outside screen were a real bonus. Evenings spent in the hot tub gazing up at the stars then watching a film on the outside screen. Surrounded by fascinating wildlife with red squirrels running about. Would defiantly recommend as a wonderful place to stay.
Christopher
We had a fantastic 5 days in Barn Owl cottage. The hot tub, outside cinema and dart board were brilliant. The lodge was lovely and spacious. The WiFi was fab. The lodge is in a lovely peaceful location. Highly recommended
Lovely property well serviced. Everything you needed was available and owner easy to contact and very obliging, ideal for dog walkers.
Michelle
A great place to stay will definitely be booking again.
Sharon
We paid almost double what the other lodges on site are listed at for the outdoor facilities The Barn Owl offered however after the first night of trying the hot tub there was what I can only describe as a midge epidemic, which left myself and my friend with over 70 bites! We did receive an email after we arrived saying Ps..... just a suggestion bring some mozzie spray, i tried to get some to leave in lodge but village shop has sold out. X We could not use the outdoor facilities or leave the windows or doors open on a particularly hot weekend. My advice to any traveller would be if you want to use any outdoor facilities make sure you cover every bit of skin and bring jungle mozzie spray! The pub onsite said this is standard to have this many midges. Which serves lovely food by the way, would highly recommend the pub just not the lodge.
Antony
Great accommodation with high spec throughout. Lovely quiet location close to a small supermarket and with an excellent onsite pubrestaurant. Plus excellent, highly responsive service from the owner. Book it!
The lodge was well situated, equipped and comfortable. The hot tub was great as was the covered outdoor seating areaprojector screen.
We had an excellent and very comfortable stay in a really lovely area. It wasn't really apparent in the listing that it was in quite a large camp of lodges so that we were overlooked a bit although the fences did afford some privacy. The lodge was clean and prepared very well although a shame that the wine glasses had been put away rather dirty. There are lovely walks in the woods and the red squirrels were a bonus! Bring some monkey nuts they love them. If it had been a little warmer the outdoor cinema projector would have been amazing! We would certainly stay again. I did speak to the owner with a couple of queries and she was very helpful and pleasant and easy to contact.
