Property lived up to our expectations both inside and out. An abundance of wildlife, red squirrel and pine marten daily, although trail cams or a lot of patience may be needed to see the later. There are numerous bird species to see in the garden and surrounding area. Rupert the owner took time to share information about wildlife and the area on our request. The house is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. The garden is amazing. Thank you Rupert for a wonderful holiday.
What a lovely accommodation Rowan House offered us. Set in beautiful grounds, well appointed, spacious, clean and enjoyable. The hot tub was a wonderful edition for cooler days and the fire places added another layer of comfort. The kitchen is spacious and the utility space has all you can ask for. Everyone felt very happy at Rowan House. Thank you.
We visited as a part of nine two families, with kids aged between 7 and 12 and this house was perfect! Loads of space, wonderful garden, easy access to the forest and the river and a very helpful and accommodating host! Highly recommended!
We have stayed at Rowan numerous times now ,never disappointed. The house is beautiful, lots of room to enjoy with family. The garden is glorious, wildlife fabulous ,what more could you want . Hosts are great ,can't do enough for you ,Thankyou Inge& Rupert
This is the most fabulous house and grounds. Our party consisted of three couples each with a dog. 2 generations of the family. The house is spacious, bright and very well equipped. The dogs loved the freedom of chases in the garden. The younger generation enjoyed the hot tub. The oldies loved everything. The younger ones travelled to John O Groats which was a long way but doable. Oldies went to Falls of Shin, Dornoch, Tain, Portmahomack and Tarbat Ness. Rupert was the perfect host. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely stay at Rowan House. We were two families of 5 and there was plenty of room. We loved the indoor and outdoor space especially the ducks, the house was comfortable and well equipped. Rupert is a fabulous host, fantastic communication and top tips on places to visit or walk. Thoroughly recommended!
We stayed at Rowan House for a week over New Year and had an absolutely wonderful time. The house itself is beautiful, set in stunning grounds with two lovely ponds. Feeding the squirrels was such a highlight, especially for our 1yearold son who absolutely loved it. We were lucky enough to enjoy snow during our stay, which made everything feel extra special. We nearly got snowed in, and the host was incredibly kind and accommodating, reassuring us that we could stay longer if needed. He was friendly, helpful, and very easy to communicate with throughout. The accommodation was fantastic the hot tub was amazing, and the open fireplaces made the house feel so cosy. There was plenty of wood provided, which was very much appreciated. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind. We would definitely return and highly recommend Rowan House to anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable stay.

What a fabulous week at this wonderful property. Couldnt have asked for more. Stunning gardens and grounds, ample parking. Secure for our two dogs. The house is huge and gorgeous inside. The lovely owners Rupert and Inge provided everything we needed to get started. I would thoroughly recommend for a large family holiday. Its ideally situated for the NC500 and lots to do in the surrounding areas. We were all sad to leave and would love to come back soon. The red squirrels were there everyday too. 1010

Best accommodation we have stayed in. Very clean and very well equipped. Sykes listing very accurate. Great communication from host. Fabulous surroundings. Fantastic holiday.
Fantastic house with very large rooms. Lots of space. Kitchen very well equipped and toilets and bathrooms are very nice. Comfy beds. Huge garden with a pond so kids and dogs needs to be watched. We had a toddler and it was fine and 3 dogs. We had the best weather ever for being March so sunny and warm. Feeding the squirrels was lovely and we even got to see some. Lovely walks from the garden to the forest. Owners are very lovely and she has an art shop where she sells coasters , placemats, cushions and so much more . So I can recommend you visit because we did and we bought so many nice things from there. Her art is in the house and coasters and placemats and cushions. Well worth a visit. Tain pottery is worth a visit so many fantastic things and Cromarty pottery. If you want a peaceful and lovely stay this is the place. Just amazing and fantastic. Sitting in the big lounge watching the ducks and if you lucky the squirrels eating from the feeders. Sitting in peace and quiet and having a nice cup of tea. The hot tub is easy to manage no problems at all. Takes a bit longer to heat up first but then it heats up quickly if used every day. We did and watched the sky that was full of stars. Thank you for letting us stay here. We absolutely loved it!! Axel celebrate his 2nd birthday here and had a fantastic day. I have a feeling we will be back . Anna , Steve, Isabella, Dave and little Axel and tge 3 happy dogs.
This property was absolutely amazing and the owners were so lovely!
Rowan House is a fantastic holiday house for large parties or families. The house is very spacious and well equipped. The garden is amazing with a vast lawn providing ample space for kids to play. There are also two ponds with resident ducks and woodland with red squirrels and an array of bird life. The hot tub is wood fired so needs a bit of management and attendance.
The Owners are the best. Very welcoming and helpful. The house is absolutely spotless and in an unbeatable location. Squirrels and ducks abound.

Our fantastic stay at Rowen House was only sullied by the fact we had to leave. There was everything under one roof and more. The garden is fantastic that our 2 dogs loved being able the run about. It took us a while to find our way round as there was so many rooms it was easy to get lost, but beautiful. The owner is so friendly and is in contact with you regularly to make sure there is nothing wrong or even if you need some advice. The location is a little out of the way of a town or village, but they doesn't change my opinion of it. Fantastic if you like to sit and read, watch the wildlife, Mr squirrel made an appearance more than once, and walks a plenty. Or if you like to travel about it perfect for those adventures to. Hope to return in the future.
A great place for a wonderful holiday
We had a fantastic week at Rowan House. As soon as you turn in the gate its a WOW factor. Lovely house and immaculate gardens. Inside the house was the same. Open the door and again, wow. There were 7 of us staying, and everything we needed to be comfortable was provided and also spotless. There is a hot tub that is heated by a wood burner, and there was more than enough wood to last a few weeks let alone one. Wild life was in abundance. We saw both sea and golden eagles, deer, pine martens, squirrels, badgers and of course the resident ducks. Our hosts were super friendly, and very quick with correspondence. Rowan House was a real find, a jewel. If you like peace and quiet, but towns within half an hour. Then this is the place to be. Loved our week loved the hosts , breaks dont get any better We will be back
Wonderful house, extremely spacious & every room very comfortable and offering something different in character. The grounds and wildlife also an immense joy & along with the terrific location which still gives opportunity to explore this area of Northern Scotland, East or West coast made for simply a fabulous and relaxing holiday. Last but not least the owners were incredibly helpful & information on arrival to property to everything surrounding. Definitely will return ! Thank you so much !
Well what can I say . ....absolutely fabulous house ,a wildlife watchers paradise !! The hosts are great ,very helpful ,full of knowledge. I really can't put into words our stay just FABULOUS. Thankyou ....we are coming back !!
We all loved the spaciousness of the house and it had everything we needed for a wonderful family holiday, thank you.
This property was perfect for what we needed. Quiet countryside location with everything you need in the house. Rupert was extremely helpful and very courteous. Together with the beautiful house, the location and a very helpful and kind host it made it a Christmas break we will remember forever.

Rowan House is an extremely well appointed property in an idyllic location within striking distance of many of Northern Scotland's prime attractions. The house has extensive gardens and duck filled ponds... so it was actually very tempting to stay put and not bother with excursions! We particularly loved feeding the resident red squirrels... Rupert, the owner, made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of pointers to explore the locale. I wish we could have made it a longer stay and we would most certainly return in the future. Our booking was very 'last minute' and we certainly struck it lucky!
Absolutely brilliant holiday. My family and I had a fantastic time at Rowan House. Once a year my husband and I love to book somewhere where our family if they choose can join us, which here they did! Entering the entrance hall was a wow and every room in the house spotless! Plenty of rooms to choose from if needing some quiet time, although we tended to sit in the kitchen dining area and the large sitting room, there was plenty of bathrooms and loos to accommodate our family and plenty of fridges too. Communication with Rupert owner and his wife was always pleasant. Meeting them both was also a pleasure. Its very easy to get your 10000 steps in per day staying here without stepping foot off the grounds. The garden was beautiful too. Its lovely to see red squirrels running around the feeders and a good variety of birds including a red kite made an appearance. The hot tub was a lovely addition, easy to use and enjoyable. The house is situated for easy access to the NC 500 and lots of other places such as the Falls of Shinn Salmon Leap, Dunrobin Castle and Dornoch where we saw 2 Dolphins swimming from the beach The beach at Embo was beautiful too. We are looking forward to returning next year.
Quite magnificent property with a superb blend of modern & traditional modern enough to be sure everything works efficiently & is cosy, with traditional furnishings which have that really nice preloved feel to enable us to enjoy without fear of spoiling any pristine newness. Comes complete with everything you need to ensure a lovely stay books, games, firewood & even doggie poo bags!
Jeanette
We had a wonderful relaxing time. The surrounding countryside was very scenic.

Stayed at Rowan house last week with family ranging in age from 1year old to 60 years . House is so comfortable and so well catered for. Great for a relaxing get away. Lots of walks from door step. Rupert very welcoming and helpful.
Everything fantastic bar the midgies, couldnt enjoy the amazing garden at night past 7pm, but nothing can really be done about them though, only gripe I think we could say about the house and garden area.
Rowan house was an amazing place to spend our holiday. The house was clean, comfortable and homely and communication with Rupert, the owner, was always extremely easy and helpful. The gardens and surroundings of the house are absolutely beautiful, and the wood fired hot tub is a great feature. I would not hesitate to recommend Rowan house to anyone, and I hope to come back for another visit one day!
What an amazing house, perfect place for an excellent family holiday , house was immaculate and had everything we needed. Hot tub was excellent and grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. My granddaughter also loved feeding the red squirrels and ducks. Rupert the owner of the property was very helpful and informative of the area. We were a party of 10 and everyone of us are looking forward to returning next year. 1st Class.
What an amazing place to spend Christmas with the extended family. Rupert very kindly had decorated the house for Christmas including a 13ft Christmas tree. Stunning house, great garden and a gorgeous setting, would love to come back in the summer months and explore the area further. Only one critisism is that there is only one shower cubicle with the other showers over bath but we coped with that. Thanks Rupert and family for a lovely holiday.
Alison
