Westray House Reviews

Rachel
We loved our stay in Westray House. It was super comfortable for eight of us with four bathrooms and spacious bedrooms. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you could possibly need. There was limited room to store food, but we moved some big unused kitchen equipment around and managed to make it work. The terrace is fabulous with the evening sunshine and that view of the beach. It was brilliantly close to the beach and Vanilla, and so the teens were happy. We did encounter a few issues when we were there but John Bray were helpful and things mainly got rectified within a few days. Its just a shame the property price has gone up so massively for next year !
This is the second time weve stayed at Westray House with friends, and once again it was perfect. The property has everything we could want stunning views, an excellent location, and plenty of space for everyone to relax comfortably. The house was clean, wellmaintained, and very spacious throughout. We did experience a minor issue with the shower during our stay, but it was dealt with promptly and efficiently, which we really appreciated. If we were to suggest a couple of improvements, a little more food storage space in the kitchen would be helpful, and the outdoor decking and furniture would benefit from a fresh coat of paint to bring them up to the same high standard as the rest of the property. These are only minor points, however, and did not detract from our enjoyment of the stay. We would happily return and highly recommend Westray House to others.
A really lovely house in a fab location, so close to the beach. Even in winter it is so lovely, the house was very warm and cosy yet spacious with everything you could need. The path up is not great if youve not got good mobility. A nice little town too with nice restaurants and pubs and we do love Polzeath beach
A fantastic New year stay at Westray House. Positioned just a minute from the beach, this cottage was perfect for our holiday and we would recommend it to all.
We absolutely adored Westray House we have stayed in Polzeath a lot and found it by walking past! The house is totally unique. Beautiful and original c200 years old, but completely modernised. Moments from the beach. A real home from home every item considered and thoughtful. We were so comfortable and happy, thank you for a wonderful week! We have already booked for next year.
This was our 3rd time staying at this house and it was as fabulous as all the other times. We came this year, as last, with 6 adults and a few dogs and had the most wonderful week, dog walking, surfing and enjoying the fabulous restaurants in the area and beyond. The house is superbly located, very close to the beach and has wonderful views from the decking out to the sea. As I said in a previous review, the house has a very homely feel and we instantly relax upon arrival. The fire is a huge bonus and one we take advantage of all week, no matter what the weather. The same with the hot tub! I have read some other recent reviews which have moaned a little about building works. I find this a little unfair as the works really dont impact the house at all and clearly couldnt be helped in any event. I would perhaps understand if right next door or noisey but they arent, so dont let that put you off at all. We had what we thought was an issue with the hot tub. I called Sykes and they dealt with it immediately and within the hour I had a lovely engineer out to look at it. He was very friendly. It turned out to be user error which was a little embarrassing but we werent made to feel silly and the chap talked us through what had happened. I really have nothing but great things to say about this house. We love it so much I have just booked for our return next year!
Heather
Amazing property, it was our second visit to Westray and have already booked for next year ! Very well equipped and close to the local amenities and waking distance to Polzeath beach.Beds extremely comfortable, and of course The Hot tub was fabulous ! Lovely walks on the coastal path and plenty of watersports available coasteringsea kayaking ect with local companies. We have used Era and Rock tors in past ,both excellent. Would highly recommend staying here.

We had a lovely stay and would recommend! Only very minor niggles, dog poo left in the garden contacted John Bray don't try ringing for long, I was on hold for 16 minutes so make sure you use the call back feature! and they said they'd send someone asap. Someone did come and mow the lawn a couple of days later, but still left a poo behind! We couldn't get into the hot tub because there was no code given to us had to ring John bray again, same phone situation, bird poo inside on the front door window, rubbish bag left split on the floor in front of the bins when we arrived and it was there the whole duration, the dog hair and debris under the sofas was quite bad, so maybe a nudge in the cleaners department, WiFi wouldn't work throughout the holiday, so if you're hoping to catch up with work and need internet, that might be an issue, building work at the entrance to the lane was annoying at times blocking the road, but no noticeable noise to report...and it would've been handy for an extra bin bag! But apart from that, it really was great and we all had a wonderful holiday!

Great property

All good but the hot tub was locked when we arrived and no code. I had to ring up on the Saturday so we missed one day of use.
We had a wonderful week staying at West Ray house in Polzeath. The house has an excellent position from where you can see the waves on the main beach. Everything we needed was on site, including a lovely hot tub to warm up after surfing. Will definitely be returning next year!
Westray house is a very comfortable home with all necessary amenities. It is in a convenient position close to the beach and local shops. Sadly there is a lot of building work going on around the property which was noisy and disturbing at times. The road leading up to the property was frequently blocked with grab Lorries during our stay. The house itself could do with a spring clean as there was evident dust on picture frames and skirting boards. The hot tub was being filled with water and the maintenance man was there when we arrived on Friday afternoon. We noted that the filter being inserted was very discoloured. When the hot tub had reached the required temperature it was also noted that the interior of the tub had not been cleaned properly and there was a brown ring around it. However all things taken into consideration we all enjoyed our stay there.
What a beautiful house in a stunning location in Polzeath. The house is so thoughtfully arranged with great views, outdoor shower and drying room for the surfers and a well stocked kitchen which made it a joy to cook comfortably for 7 people. The log burner was a delight and we were provided with a full supply of logs. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
A return visit, fabulous home, proper old house, of which there are a diminishing number. Having been visiting north Cornwall for more than 50 years, it is sad to see the significant uptick in yet more houses! Given the long winter one would have anticipated the house to have had a proper spring clean and airing, this had not been achieved, rather assumed. The surfaces were not clean photo shared with agent. Roman blinds in many instances were faulty or simply fallen down photos shared with agent. Sensor light in ensuite, faulty often staying on all night, shower in ensuite constant dripping. Suggested both sets of steps to house could do with a jet wash as so slippery. Agent was very responsive when we shared feedback. Hopefully, by now all remedies have been completed but if you are booking, do check Recommend noone to arrive in a fancy car as the lane is in chronic condition, additionally lane might be closed at one end due to building works so exit can only be achieved through the top road, this may be challenging for anything low slung! Be aware if the building construction at the end of lane at Polzeath has a delivery the road will be closed down the hill into Polzeath causing long tailbacks for those who don't heed the diversion signs...... None of the above things spoiled our visit, more irksome particularly as holidays like this are a considerable outlay. Nevertheless, we had super time. It probably cannot be said for others nearer the beach or Trebetherick, the endless dentist drilling sounds of building works, day in day out was awful, again no affect where we were but come the summer, renters be warned about sitting out on terraces during working hours.....
This was the second time we have stayed at Westray House and it is absolutely fabulous. The location is fantastic and general facilities in the house are excellent. There is a very handy wet room and outdoor shower which is brilliant for showering off after a swim in the sea and making sure any four legged friends are free from sand before they get into the house. The house has a lovely homely feel about it, with a brilliant fire. The hot tub is an added bonus! The beds are very comfy which is very important if you want any a relaxing week. Finally, we had some additional questions prior to booking regarding the dogs and the owners were extremely accommodating and just as we arrived we had a message to say some new nonstick pans were arriving no doubt in response to a previous review so a very quick resolution to that issue and we were welcome to open the delivery. We loved our stay as much this time as we did 3 years ago and are planning on booking again for next year.
Very comfortable house with lovely deck dripping shower in ensuite was ... Very comfortable house with lovely deck dripping shower in ensuite was never mended although someone did come to fix it would have been nice to have a nonstick pan in the kitchen for scrambled eggs lovely location
Denise
We had a lovely stay in westray our 3 rd time Everything was as before. Clean tidy and comfortable. Its a great location for the town and easy reach of shops and the beach. The weather wasnt kind to us this year but the house was cosy warm and inviting. The hot tub as ever was clean and very therapeutic. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Heather
Lovely holiday at Westray House, amazing property, very well equipped, we have already booked again for next year!
We have stayed at Westray House before and it certainly didnt disappoint on this occasion. The house is beautiful. it is extremely well equipped, located and maintained. We relaxed immediately upon arrival. We were lucky with the weather but equally the house would be cosy if the sun doesnt shine. We requested the hot tub and that was a great addition. Would definitely return.
Fantastic property, has everything you need for a family holiday in Cornwall. Perfect. Would love to return.
Lovely property in a great location. Has all the facilities you need to make your stay very enjoyable.
Denise
A lovely house a short walk to beach and shops. Great decor and comfy . Plenty of bathrooms and brilliant wetsuit room. We enjoyed the hot tub and the outside deck. Fantastic views to the sea. Its our second stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. Have already booked for next year. Thank you
I love West Ray house and we had a wonderful trip, everything I had hoped for and expected, the house is very comfortable. It would be better if check out time could be 11am as otherwise you miss a whole day.
Catherine
It was good and john bray were helpful with the wifi problems
We had a fantastic week at Westray. Lovely house and great location just a couple of minutes from Polzeath beach. The outside hot shower was excellent coming in from surfing, then relaxing in the hot tub. All mod cons, clean and tidy.
A fantastic stay at Westray as always. Love this property for our family. A home away from home and we hope to book again for next Easter. Many thanks
Great property with views down towards the beach. Description has shown. Pub up the road is fantastic with lovely staff and food. Visited this house early in February and mentioned then that the cupboard door knob had fallen off and that there was a lack of baking trays and no grill pan but this hasn't as yet been addressed.
A really lovely home! A far cry from most holiday houses West Ray is a home. Well equipped and comfortable. If it has a downside parking is limited. Fabulous Cornish break, highly recommend. PS notes for your handy team 1 x lightbulb required in family bathroom & outside shower temperature gauge does not regulate, very very hot is only setting yes, we swam in February!
Great house in perfect location. Easy walk down to beach and about 5min uphill walk to the Oystercatcher pub which is fab. Only request would be for a few more oven trays, there is also no grill pan, or not that we could find.
Claire
Great position, spacious and very well equipped. We emailed asking for Bed 2 to be made up as a twin, which wasnt acknowledged, a call to customer services assured us that it would be done but it wasnt, which was disappointing. Hot tub wasnt warm enough to use on our first day so despite paying for a week in reality it is 6 days. Only one side of the toaster works but otherwise house is in great condition. Possibly a mirror in the bedroom on the top floor and a hair dryer in each room would be good. We enjoyed our stay very much and would probably book this house again.
Denise
We had a fantastic stay at westray. It is a characterful house rather than many others which are too modern and grey beds and sofas are really comfortable. Lovely art work on the walls. Its close location to the beach and shops whilst being hidden away in a quiet lane was unmatchable. The house was really well equipped including the kitchen and wetsuit room with extra bodyboards and drying rack. The hot tub was well worth the extra fee. It was nice and hot, clean and with powerful jets. It was welcome after a days surfing. The outside deck was great and a real sun trap in the afternoon. Needless to say we booked it straight away for next year. Thanks for a great stay.
Everything about the house was perfect location, easy access to the beach, house well thought out and easy to live in, decor homely, little garden perfect for dogs etc. It is a shame that John Bray have changed their policy on rebooking and giving priority for the same date next year.
Our 2nd visit to westray, as a whole family kids! 21,25,29 still all happy to be there. We had a great stay thanks again to the owners and Sykes . All the coopers
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Westray and the week went much too quickly. The house itself is lovely and roomy and the facilities are excellent particularly in the kitchen. It does feel like youre staying in someones lovely home, rather than a generic holiday cottage. Special mention for the comfortable beds too terribly important for a relaxing holiday. The close proximity to the local shops, beach and coastal path made it easy to leave the car after arriving, which is a boon! We would happily recommend this cottage.
West Ray was everything we had hoped for when booking a long awaited trip. The house was warm, comfortable and well equipped. Comfy beds most appreciated. As someone who has been coming to Polzeath for 50 years I loved its history and presence. Easy to walk to the beach and the outside shower appreciated by the surfers, particularly as it was March!
The house is perfect for two families getting together. Everything you need to hand in a spotlessly clean house. Great location with stunning deck and views. Original class in amongst the Malibuesque new builds of Polzeath. A cracking weekend of sun, surf, rugby and relaxing. Highly recommend.
Great house and I highly recommend
Andrea
Very prompt service from electrician when we called to sort out a problem with the lights that was unsolvable via the fuse box. ... Hot tub was still not up to temperature by Monday afternoon ....message was left by John Bray explaining how to change the settings to Standard to get it up to temp by the Tuesday....obviously not the end of the world but a shame the children, who had been looking forward to it from last year, had less use of it than expected. Bed side light in master bedroom not working even with change of bulb.... & sensor lights in en suite seem to flicker on & off all night independently. Love the house....stylish, very well equipped, brilliant location & we definitely hope to be back for a 3rd year....thank you.
We loved the house and finally went on the camel trail for the first time! ! Also had delicious meal at port gaverne hotel
